Avon Congregational Church

Avon Congregational Church is a Congregational Church building at the junction of U.S. 202 and U.S. 44 in Avon, Connecticut.

It was designed by architect David Hoadley and was built in 1819. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.^[1]

Mishaps reported include:

• The church bell cracked when pealing news of Lee's surrender at Appomattox in 1865
• The church was badly burned in 1876
• The hurricane of 1938 blew off the church's steeple (later restored)
• Two busy highways and commercial structures were encroaching, at time of NRHP nomination
